Unobstructed Top-Down Access
A swooped-back zipper on the top half ensures ease of top down access to items in the clam-shell main compartment.
Balanced Construction
Fully lined with a 210D ripstop nylon, and a 840D Nylon outer shell that balances weight and rigidity, with padding only where necessary to minimize bulk.
Two-Device Compartment
A padded divider in the false-bottomed laptop compartment fits devices up to 16" on each side.
Adaptive Volume Paneling
The 3D back panel design creates a buffer zone that flexes and expands with how much the bag is loaded out.

I went through Aer, Peak design, North face, Osprey, Fjallraven, before finally settling on the Toshi pack 20l. Lightweight, perfect organization, durable and sleek. This my go to back for everyday and travel now, all others sit in the wardrobe.
My only small gripe is with the sternum strap -being elastic doesn’t help much with the load and it slides sometimes down. I rarely use though, so not a big deal.
Overall, this is the best backpack in existence for my use case, and it finally put an end to my year long search.
I really wanted to love this bag, and honestly I came pretty close. The Toshi 20L is a very good backpack, and in a lot of ways it nails what I wanted. It’s compact enough to work well as an under-seat personal item, but it still has enough usable space that it doesn’t feel like a tiny laptop sleeve with straps.
The overall size and layout are probably the best things about it. It feels much less like a “travel backpack” than some other 20L bags, but it also doesn’t feel too small or fussy. The main compartment is easy to use and the bag does a decent job of feeling organized without being one over-designed.
That said, there are a few design choices that kept it from being perfect for me.
The biggest one is the two water bottle pockets. I understand why people like that, but for my use case I only need one. I would much rather have one bottle pocket and then a zippered side pocket especially on this size of a bag. The second bottle pocket is not useless, but it feels like dead space unless you add your own pouch or find a specific use for it. I get it on a backpacking backpack or long trek thing but in a smaller bag it is wasted weight and utility.
The other thing is the dedicated laptop section. It works fine, but I personally don’t need it. I’d rather have the laptop integrated into the rear of the main compartment to save weight, bulk, and complexity. For a compact personal-item bag, every layer matters. The laptop section isn’t a dealbreaker, but it does feel like one more “almost right” choice. Furthermore there is zero organization there. It is weird to just drop chargers in a side of it. ITs a miss that was an unforced error.
The lack of a simple pen holder also feels weird. It’s a small thing, but this bag clearly has enough thought put into the layout that not having one feels like an unnecessary miss. There are already mesh pockets in the admin area-just add a stitch and fix it!
Still, the Toshi’s flaws are mostly livable. Nothing about it was a true dealbreaker. The size is good, the layout is good, and it carries the essentials well. Compared with some other bags I tested, it felt like the sensible middle option: not the most premium, not the most organized, not the smallest, but understandable compromises.
If Rework made a version with one bottle pocket, one zip side pocket, a simpler laptop sleeve inside the main compartment, and a few more small-item organization, it would be extremely close to perfect for me. It would be lighter weight, same pack out size and more utility all at the same time.
As-is, I think it’s a solid 20L backpack, especially if you want something compact and useful without going full “travel bag.” It just missed a few small details that matter a lot depending on how you pack. If you are huge into lots of pouches inside this one could be perfect for you. I prefer the organziaiotn to be build into the bag and I know that's not for everyone.
This bag fits everything I need to carry around, has convenient compartment distribution and is comfortable to wear.
Its only downside is that it struggles to stand on its own when not all compartments are in use.
Not a real issue for me personally though. 10/10
As somebody who uses my gear until it falls apart, on a recent work trip I had to replace my e-bag that lasted me 6 years. Doing a lot of research, I wanted to make sure that I could fit all of my tech into my everyday Tech bag for when I need to travel. I do not check a bag but I do take a roll on. So I needed a bag big enough for my tech but not too big. 20 L seemed like the perfect size. Originally I was looking to make sure this would fit a 16-in laptop. For most laptops this will work, for my framework 16-in laptop with a dedicated graphics card it will not fit inside of the laptop area. It could however fit inside of the regular bag just without padding. With that being said, my Lenovo p1 gen 3 16-in laptop fits beautifully in the back. My framework 13-in and fits in the other slot. I love the front kangaroo pocket style pouch. Front zipper for My large battery backups and storage. Sunglasses zipper is amazing! And then the large compartment area for the main section is very conducive to adding your own packs of gear. Most importantly, in my opinion, is the comfort level of this bag!!! It is very comfortable to carry even when it's loaded! I also like the minimal branding. I'd give this a 10 out of 10, for the price and for the materials, I would absolutely buy this again!
Decent size for daily commute and weekend trips. Plenty of functional pockets. Simplistic design.
Great quality and materials. The only complaint would be that the straps are a little short
