Engineered for Transit
The Outbound Series is built for the constant transitions of travel, keeping your gear organized and accessible throughout your journey. Whether you’re boarding a nonstop flight or hopping on an overnight train, go outbound and move seamlessly from departure to arrival.
Ergonomic Harness System
-
U-Shaped Wireframe
A lightweight steel frame that gives the back panel structure and provides resistance when the load-lifters are engaged.
-
Load-lifters
Adjustable load-lifters work in tandem with the wireframe to bring the load closer to the body.
-
Sternum Strap
Brings the shoulder straps toward the center of the chest and keeps the pack stable while on the move.
Easy Access
Two quick access pockets designed to keep your items within reach—one from the top-down, and the other by swinging the bag over your shoulder.
External Lash Points
Six lash points across the front and sides of the bag provide attachment points for carabiners or oversized items.
Dedicated Tech Compartment
A padded divider in the false-bottomed laptop compartment fits devices up to 17" on each side.
Secured Zippers
YKK lockable zipper sliders on the main compartment, and zippers that tuck into paracord loops allow you to secure compartments with a lock or add a first line of theft deterrence.
Four-Way Grab Handles
Handles on the top, sides, and bottom allow you to easily maneuver the bag from any angle during travel.

I don't use this bag for travel very often but it works well for that. It's been quite comfortable the few times I've used it to carry things for extended periods and is very packable. The load lifters work really well and make carrying this much easier with heavier loads.
Something I really like is that you can use the external latch points to tie a shock cord and be able to carry a little more on the outside. It's not the best set up for this but it works and gives you a little more versatility. One minor issue is that the water bottle pockets eat into the interior bag space but this shouldn't be an issue unless you're really packing a ton into it.
I would highly recommend this bag if you're looking for a fairly versatile 30L travel or every day backpack.
Great backpack! I love the attention too detail in the arrangement of compartments, exterior handles and loops, and interior storage pockets.
It's amazing to travel with -- the harness system is incredibly comfortable and feels like nothing on my shoulders. Rework does great engineering and has great build quality.
I bought the Tortuga - comfortable but overall too much material and too clunky. I got the Aer TP4 (love my CP2) and it was just a little too large and frankly too heavy. I got the Rework 30L Outbound, and voila, the best of the three. It’s not over designed with heavy material, it’s actually quite light, straps are very comfortable, tons of space in the main compartment, the admin pocket is truly the same as the TP4, but the pocket underneath that admin pocket can actually be used and holds a considerable amount of stuff. The upgrades that I would love to see is a microfiber or softer material for that top quick access pocket - I use it mostly for my sunglasses. Sternum strap should be ever so slightly thicker and if it was semi elastic like the TP4 that would be awesome! Add a small magnet to attach the luggage passthrough to the bag while not in use. If possible add a small quick access side pocket like some of the other bags have. If the next one has all those upgrades I would buy my second Rework backpack :) Overall fantastic bag and amazing work Rework team.
I’m so glad that I discovered this brand because deciding to try out the Outbound has absolutely paid off! I love how this bag carries, even for someone short like me. The more I use it, the more I find really smart touches, like the u shaped inner wire system, the rear tech pouch, and the expandable water bottle sleeves on the side. I have several name brand bags where those sleeves are honestly not that usable once you’re packed out. I also think this might even be a bit bigger than 30L as it holds a bit more than my partners’ 30L but maybe I’m biased lol. All in all, I almost defaulted to another brand (with a great bag!) but found that this was exactly what I needed for one bag travel. Thank you!
I was doing a ton of research, and it came down to the Rework 30l, Aer TP4 28l Ultra, and Evergoods CTB 26l X-Pac. I ended up going with Rework. I was blown away by how comfortable, light, and functional this bag is.
My wish list,
I would love to have this in an X-Pac version or made with a more superior water-resistant material. I've read their blogs and watched one of their more recent videos discussing their views on premium gear and how companies are obsessed with it, haha. Regardless, I still believe there is a market for folks like me who want a more premium fabric. Take my money! Haha.
A two-way zipper to the laptop compartment would be great.
A hip strap and more-padded side handles would also be great.
I would redesign and move the key leash from the top front pocket to the bottom of the same pocket. When you open the zipper, the leash easily slips out and gets in the way as you try to zip it down. Luckily, the bottom front pocket is positioned lower within the same space, which is what I did to avoid the one on top.
Things that I love,
The zippers are so smooth to open. I enjoy it very much.
The load-lifters come in clutch. Also love how it hugs your back while wearing it.
I’ve had this backpack fully loaded with my belongings, and it’s great that the two quick-access pockets and the top one are still easily accessible. Could not say the same for the Aer TP4, haha.
Love how there's no logo anywhere on the outside. Stealth mode is dope.
While using the Outbound TP, I felt a deep impression that this bag was very well thought out. I really appreciate the engineering behind it.
You two should be very proud of yourselves. Your OTP 30l persuaded me to switch from Aer and Evergoods! I look forward to your future products. I would give this a 4.4 out of 5 Stars. It's almost perfect, haha.
Fun fact: I caught someone wearing this exact backpack at the airport while I was waiting to board!
Really hits just about all my requirement for travel, either short term or as a companion to a suitcase. Well worth the price, and then some
