I’ve been using the Toshi 20L backpack for a few days now, and I’m extremely happy with it. The internal organisation is excellent: the pockets are very well designed and make it easy to carry everyday essentials efficiently. The materials feel durable, and the weatherproofing is excellent – I used it in heavy rain yesterday. Despite its compact size, the Toshi 20L is incredibly versatile. It’s perfect as an EDC backpack, but I am sure that it also works very well for a short weekend trip, fitting everything I need without feeling bulky. Overall, it’s a compact, well-designed backpack that fully matches my needs. And this is exactly what I was looking for.
The only minor downside is that the shoulder straps are slightly wide, which can initially give a feeling of less snug contact with the shoulders. That said, once the sternum strap is used, the fit becomes stable and comfortable, and the issue is completely resolved.
I've had the Toshi Pack for a few months now, and I've brought it on several holiday trips since. The backpack is very thoughtfully designed, as I've found the ambidextrous front pocket to be extremely convenient for quick access items. In fact, the multiple compartments are filled with very thoughtfully designed pockets, zip mesh mini compartments, and flexible setup options (e.g., leash hook) that I continue to find practical use cases for when traveling.
The main compartment also has a bend in the middle of the zipper track, giving me the flexibility to open the bag top-down (mostly when I'm out and about, or on a flight) - but also fully with a 'clamshell' like opening when I'm packing the bag for a trip. When fully loaded, the firmly padded straps hold up really well, and I've found this to be my most comfortable backpack on long days regardless of the load.
To be really honest - I'm already considering buying a second pack to bring to work, so I'll be looking forward to any new size, design, or color variations!
My use case was a work travel backpack that fits under an airplane seat on flights, but still allows some foot space, and looks reasonably professional when bringing it into meetings. Needs to carry a laptop, folio, cables, headphones, sunglasses, water bottle, some cables/charger, and a few other miscellaneous items. It does that well, although the folio makes the laptop compartment pretty tight, but everything does fit with additional room available in the main larger pocket. I also really like the ambidextrous front panel pocket for going through security, so I can quickly stash wallet and phone before I walk through the metal detectors. There are a few annoyances though. 1: the fabric of the outer shell attracts lint/fuzzys like crazy. I dont have any pets, but if it touches certain fabrics, it's instantly covered in lint and I need to use a roller or it looks ridiculous. 2: The shoulder straps I think could be better. I heard that they were wide, but as a 5'11" individual with broad shoulders, I figured that would actually be great for me, I'd say they are still a touch wide even at my size, I removed the chest strap as I don't like that esthetic in a professional environment, but might put it back on. Also, while the straps are thick and padded, when packed out and heavy, they seem to compress too easily and aren't very comfortable. Lastly, while I like the luggage strap feature, it is a bit too narrow of an opening, so it's not very seamless going on or coming off my roller handle. Overall the bag is decent, and serves its purpose, but a little over hyped IMO.
